Sugar Creek establishes endowment with Madison Community Foundation

The Verona Area School District (VASD) Board of Education recognized Sugar Creek Elementary School Principal Todd Brunner on Monday, Oct. 7 for officially establishing an endowment fund with the Madison Community Foundation last month.

According to VASD Superintendent Tremayne Clardy, Brunner had been exploring an endowment for a while and gathering the funds to get one started. The endowment pulls together a range of undesignated grants Sugar Creek has received through the years from parents, grandparents, companies and donors.

Todd cares deeply about Sugar Creek and wants to ensure there’s a bright future ahead for all the students and staff that he serves on a daily basis,” Clardy said.

Annual proceeds from the endowment will be allocated by a team representing Sugar Creek family, staff and student voices. Brunner worked with VASD Finance Director Pete Grender and Madison Community Foundation Vice President of Donor Engagement David Koehler on the endowment.

According to its website, the goal of the Madison Community Foundation is to engage Greater Madison in philanthropy to advance a more vibrant and equitable community. It manages endowment funds in perpetuity, which means that gifts will continue to grow and provide resources forever.

Clardy thanked Brunner for his “foresight, innovation and thinking” in establishing the endowment.

“We know the impact he has on his students and staff on a daily basis, and now he has provided financial resources for the full Sugar Creek community for a lifetime.”

Those interested in supporting the fund can send money to the office in the care of the Sugar Creek Endowment.
