Sugar Creek Newsletter

Have a Great Summer!

Each and every day, we - our students and our staff - come through the big brick front doors of Sugar Creek with hope and anticipation for a day for learning, for friendship, and for a sense of belonging.

We can tell you, our staff give it their all to provide the very best learning environment for your children! They want each and every student to create new projects, visit new sites, participate in new activities, make new friends, meet new teachers, attend new school events, sing new songs, play new games, create new art projects, read new books, and even eat new foods. Our mission at Sugar Creek - that learning is engaging, is safe, and is rewarding, and is an “all staff for all kids” endeavor - will set your children off on a lifetime of success with a positive attitude.

To our Fifth Graders, we will miss you, and know you will do so well in middle school. You have a lot to be proud of, and so much to look forward to.

To all of our other students, and their families, we wish you a great summer, and are so looking forward to next year!

~Mr. Brunner and Ms. Houghan

Path of Picture Books a success!

Our Reading teachers, super-duo Ms. Doberstein and Ms. Hoffman, planned and implemented a Path of Picture Books activity (see pictures) in which every student was able to walk through the path, carefully laid out behind our school, and pick at least three books to keep. We gave out over 2,000 books! A big thank you to our staff and family volunteers, and thank YOU families, for your donations of children’s books to Sugar Creek! We work hard to get as many (high quality) books into the hands of our students as we can.

Fun Run 2025

One of the great things about Sugar Creek is our PTO's annual all-family Fun Run. This event celebrates good health and wellness, while functioning as our main fundraiser of the year. EVERY Sugar Creek student receives a free Fun Run T-shirt, and funds raised benefit EVERY student and staff member in our school. Next year's Fun Run will be held on Saturday, October 4th, 2025.

Thank you, Sarah

We'd like to thank our PTO President, Sarah Wirtz, for her kindness and dedication to our school! Mandy Auger will be our PTO President next year!

VAFFY Play Groups this Summer

VAFFY Birth - to - 5 Play Group is a FREE open play activity room staffed by trained volunteers, and will be based at Sugar Creek on the following Mondays.

Ag Day at Sugar Creek

On Thursday, May 22nd, Sugar Creek Elementary School and VAHS' FFA Club partnered to host Agriculture Day! FFA Club members set up outdoor hands-on educational stations related to such Wisconsin agricultural components as: Farm Equipment, Pollination, Cranberries, Corn, Fish, Cattle, Sheep and Poultry. Students learned real-world applications for the science topics they study in VASD's elementary science curriculum that directly connected to their life experiences as residents of Wisconsin.

Best Wishes to Two of our Colleagues

Each year at our opening days for staff, we acknowledge staff for their dedication and longevity at Sugar Creek. We are honored to have many skilled and experienced educators here, at a time when it is increasingly challenging to find and retain teachers in our country.

Ms. Jaehn and Ms. Van Handel, both great colleagues, are retiring from their respective roles as First Grade teachers. They have a combined 58 years of teaching experience in VASD. Superintendent Dr. Clardy recently delivered his best wishes and a gift on behalf of VASD (see pictures.

Teacher Assignments

Late on August 8th, 2025, the four VASD neighborhood schools will send out messages to families to notify you of your child's new teacher. Not long after you receive this email, you'll hear a welcome message from your teacher along with information about how you, your child, and the teacher can have a special opportunity (“Family Contact Time”) to meet and get to know each other.

Enrollment 2025

Our school enrollment number as of June 2 was 646, and next year we are predicting about the same. In a welcoming school and growing district like ours, with many move-ins and move-outs annually, our enrollment numbers can be a challenge to predict.
